The Reframe Method™

Naming feelings is necessary. It isn't enough.

Most SEL teaches children to label emotions and use calming tools — real, valuable skills. But worry and exclusion don't start at the feeling. They start one layer deeper, in the beliefs and biases that decide how a child reads the world. That's where MindFlow works.

The layer underneath the feeling.

A belief shapes the thought, which shapes the feeling, which shapes the behaviour. Change the belief early, and everything downstream shifts with it.

Necessary, but not sufficient.

We build on the foundation good SEL lays — and keep going.

Typical SEL stops at…

  • Naming and labelling emotions
  • Calming strategies and self-regulation
  • General empathy and "be kind" messaging
  • Skills taught as a competency checklist

The Reframe Method™ goes further…

  • Surfaces the core belief beneath the reaction ("I'm not good enough," "people not like me can't be trusted")
  • Teaches children to catch and loosen thinking traps in the moment
  • Directly targets two biases that drive worry and exclusion
  • Builds flexible, "both/and" thinking that lasts beyond the lesson

The two thinking traps we target.

These two biases sit under a large share of childhood worry, conflict, and exclusion. Loosening them early is preventive by design.

All-or-nothing thinking

"If it's not perfect, it's ruined." "I always fail." Black-and-white thinking fuels anxiety, perfectionism, and giving up. We replace "always/never" with "sometimes," and teach that a mistake isn't ruin — there's usually a middle path.

In-group / out-group bias

The pull to trust "people like me" and mistrust "others" forms early — even from arbitrary group markers. We widen the circle of "us": different in some ways, the same in the ways that matter, and belonging is something that grows.

Why ages 3–11? This is the peak window of brain plasticity for how children form beliefs about themselves and others. Building flexible, unbiased thinking now — before difficulties take hold — is far easier than unlearning it later. That's what makes MindFlow preventive, not reactive.
